Guy Portelli worked as a sculptor in the special effects dept for the BBC TV before setting up own studio in 1981. Commissions followed and more recently Guy took his Pop Icons project to the BBC Dragon’s Den programme, resulting in his being backed by James Caan, Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis. Heart Throb, The Golden Age of the Pop Icon was staged at The Mall Galleries in London in June 2009. This collection featured 18 icons from Frank Sinatra up to Amy Winehouse.
This collection includes a piece entitled Imagine, representing John Lennon
and is a particular favourite of Justin’s sister Victoria. Justin is a lifelong Beatles fan so Guy feels this is the most appropriate sculpture to help the project. The edition is of 10 in nickel plated bronze of which 9 are available for sale. There are also 2 in the original bronze version. For any sales made through the Gutless Kayaking website or associated events Guy will donate 10% of the £9000.00 sales price.
